Read To Me

Among the many new features of Amazon’s Kindle 2 is a “read to me” option, wherein Kindle owners can have the text they are reading spoken to them.

According to amazon, the “Text-to-Speech” option converts words on a page to spoken word so customers have the option to read or listen. Customers can switch back and forth between reading and listening, and pages turn automatically while the content is being read so customers can listen hands-free. You can even choose a  male or female voice to read to you.

While Kindle 2 does have some good upgraded features, like expanded battery life and instant dictionary lookup, I can’t imagine the “read to me” option inspiring anyone to buy one who may be on the fence. However, if your goal is to annoy your fellow commuters on the morning train or bus, having your automated Kindle voice read your book to you is a surefire way of accomplishing that.
