Publishing Site Introduces Pay-Per-Click Model

WebSeed Publishing yesterday launched an online ad network that allows advertisers to position their ads across its network of online magazines through a pay-per-click model.

The ad network lets advertisers leverage 800 online magazines for 20 cents per click. There are 65 vertical categories, including health, business and lifestyle, but advertising can appear only in text format.

“It gives a more high-quality look and feel to the site while giving advertisers a chance to still customize their message,” said Mike Adams, president/CEO of WebSeed, Cody, WY. “If we allowed graphic banners, it would open the door to flashing banners, distracting banners or things that we think cheapen the look of the site and drive away the high-quality readers we are trying to attract.”

Adams said the text format has produced a 1.5 percent click-through rate since January, when WebSeed launched at www.webseedpublishing.com.

“We just think the pay-per-impression is a fading model because there's no accountability in it,” he said. “Early on, so much money was put on pay-per-impression in order to get traffic, regardless of whether that traffic would result in customers.”
