Promotion Gives Traffic a Bounce at Pogo.com

Pogo.com, San Francisco, a provider of free online games, has increased new registrations by 20 percent to 30 percent with a promotional campaign called Games for Giving.

The goal of the campaign, which began last month and runs through Jan. 3, is to bring 500,000 new members to pogo.com and to raise $50,000 for the Starlight Children's Foundation, with a 10-cent donation for each new registration.

The Starlight Children's Foundation is an international, nonprofit organization that provides in-hospital and outpatient programs and services for more than 650 hospitals worldwide.

Ads promoting the campaign appeared in USA Weekend, a Sunday newspaper supplement, on Nov. 26, Dec. 3 and Dec. 10, reaching 11 million readers on each run. A “Giving through Games” banner ad on the pogo home page promotes the campaign and links to the registration page. The campaign is a featured promotion on starlight.org with links to pogo's home page. New members are automatically entered in a sweepstakes featuring prizes donated by Club Med and Tiger Electronics.

A little more than a week into the campaign, pogo.com had attracted 275,000 new members, more than half its goal. With an average of 30,000 new registrations recorded each day, pogo.com expects to reach its goal of 500,000 new members before the campaign ends Jan. 3.
