*Privacy Group Severs Ties With Amazon

Public information research center The Electronic Privacy Information Center said yesterday that it will no longer sell its publications on Amazon.com. EPIC severed its ties because of the e-tailor’s recent changes in its privacy policy.

This month, Amazon notified its customers that personal information can be shared with business partners and sold as an asset.

“Because Amazon announced that it could no longer guarantee that it would not disclose customer information to third parties, and in the absence of legal or technical means to assure privacy for Amazon customers, we have decided that we can no longer continue our relationship with Amazon,” wrote Marc Rottenberg, Epic’s executive director, in a letter on Epic’s Web site.
