Priceline.com to Offer Gas

Priceline.com Inc. said Friday that it will offer name-your-price gasoline starting May 20. The company will allow consumers to set their own price for gasoline and fill up their tanks at specially selected stations.

Priceline’s program will run through its WebHouse Club division, which handles the company’s grocery sales. The gas sales will work in similar fashion to grocery sales. Users will pick a price online and allow Priceline to choose between three providers. Consumers then prepay online for up to 50 gallons of gas at that station. Customers process the transaction at one of the three stations with a special Priceline card. The company will refund money for unpumped gasoline, and customers can buy up to two more gallons at the preselected price.
