Potter Names New Acting COO

David Solomon, U.S. Postal Service vice president of area operations for the New York metropolitan area, has been named acting chief operating officer and executive vice president by postmaster general Jack Potter.

Potter had been the agency's chief operating officer before he was named postmaster general June 1.

Eugene Rear, district manager for northern New Jersey, will serve as acting vice president of area operations for the New York metropolitan area.

Solomon began his career as a substitute clerk/carrier in 1962 and has held numerous management positions at all levels of the organization, both at headquarters and in the field.

Rear is a 27-year postal veteran. He has extensive experience in both customer service and finance. He entered the postal service as a budget analyst, later serving in other finance-related positions before being named manager of the northern New Jersey district in 1992.
