A representative from Pitney Bowes is expected to testify today to the Presidential Commission on the U.S. Postal Service about how continued development of the intelligent mail system will allow the USPS to deliver cost-effective service.
The commission's third public meeting takes place at LBJ Library and Museum in Austin, TX.
Also at the meeting, the commission will examine the effect of electronic diversion of First-Class letter mail, automation and other technologies used by the postal service, and opportunities for growth that may result from technological innovations.
Other witnesses set to appear include representatives from the USPS, Lockheed Martin and the Envelope Manufacturers Association.
Pitney Bowes, Stamford, CT, is expected to testify that an intelligent mail system can attach data-rich, machine-readable information to each mail piece, including information about the mailer, the recipient, the postal product used or content contained within the envelope.
