Pitney Bowes Inc. yesterday reversed plans to release the names of its four missing employees who were handling client projects at the World Trade Center when terrorists flew jets into the towers.
The Stamford, CT-based firm had said earlier in the day that it would make names and photographs available to increase the likelihood of the victims being identified in the aftermath of the attacks.
However, according to a company employee, Pitney Bowes reconsidered, as the probability of their workers being alive apparently became less likely.
Pitney Bowes had about 100 workers from its management services division working in both towers of the World Trade Center at the time of the attacks. Four of those workers have been missing since the attacks.
The employees were working with several banking and legal clients on mailings, document management and other projects. They were on the 52nd floor of tower one and on floors 52, 63 and 101 of tower two.
Pitney Bowes also had employees working in the Pentagon, but none were affected by that attack.
