P&G begins insert coupon program

Procter & Gamble began a coupon-insert program in specially marked products this month.

The initiative, launched in July, will run through June 2011. Every three months, P&G will rotate the products that include coupons. From July through September, Luvs, Olay, Pringles, PUR, Tampax and Tide will include in-pack savings, ranging from $5 to $55.

“What is driving this is basically the overall consumer concern about the current economic status, and the concerns that families and consumers in our country are having regarding keeping their budgets under control and maximizing their purchasing power,” said Monica Sakamoto, external relations specialist for Procter & Gamble.

The coupons offer discounts on existing products, such as Duracell batteries, Bounce fabric softener and Secret deodorant, Sakamoto said.

Consumer confidence hit a nine-month low in July, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan index, released July 30.
