The North Shore Animal League America, Port Washington, NY, last month partnered with PetFoodDirect.com, Montgomeryville, PA, to develop an Internet adoption site.
The “fully functional virtual animal shelter” will include thousands of animals from hundreds of shelters as well as pet care information. Visitors to the site will be able to search a database consisting of thousands of homeless pets by breed and age. Online applications and pre-approval adoption forms are available.
The site also features a Long Term Animal Shelter to assist visitors in finding “special needs” animals; information for both new and veteran pet owners, including pet care tips and training advice; grief counseling services for bereaved pet owners, including links to veterinarians and counselors who offer advice and information; a Recreation and Travel Center listing pet-friendly hotels and vacation sites as well as domestic and international pet travel tips; a virtual animal hospital featuring online veterinary advice; a grooming room with basic tips and techniques for pet grooming; and The Kids Corner, featuring information about pet/child relationships as well as games.
