Pet Insurer Will Test Mail

Pethealth Inc., a provider of pet health insurance programs, said Friday it planned to test direct mail campaigns to customers of financial institutions starting in first-quarter 2003 via a new partnership with Progeny Marketing Innovations.

The tests will be customized so that mail pieces carry the branding of the individual financial institutions whose customers will be targeted.

Pethealth said that Progeny, a division of Cendant Corp., has a client base of 6,500 banks, credit unions and mortgage lenders representing relationships with 180 million American consumers, or 63 percent of the U.S. population. Progeny provides insurance products and services to 40 million Americans.

Based in Oakville, Ontario, Pethealth offers pet health insurance programs in nine Canadian provinces, 43 states and the District of Columbia. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

In 2002, Pethealth agreed to market its programs to 2 million members of Affinity Group Inc. clubs in a partnership with the Association Group Insurance Administrators. Pethealth also won exclusive rights to provide indemnity pet insurance to AFL-CIO union members under the Union Plus brand name.
