Penguins fans disappointed off the ice, too

The NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins are down two games to none in their semifinal series against the Washington Capitals, but fans were still excited for the series to shift to Pittsburgh. Some were probably even more excited to learn via text message that they had won tickets for the game.

Unfortunately, that amount of people numbered 460, which was a mistake.

The Penguins were forced to text, robocall, and personally call each person who had erroneously received the text message, as well as give them a gift package including tickets to a game next year. Just another reminder that in this world of instantaneous digital communications, a single, simple error can have dire consequences for marketers.
