PC Connection Unveils Personalized Business Account Pages

Computer products marketer PC Connection Inc., Merrimack, NH, rolled out its Internet Business Accounts service this week that allows its business, education and government customers to create personalized e-commerce accounts.

The roll-out follows several months of beta testing in which the reseller, which offers brand-name computers and accessories through catalogs, the Internet and telesales, tested the system with some of its largest customers.

“This is a big enhancement for our business customers,” said spokeswoman Tracy Turner. “What we're trying to do is give purchasers as many options as we can so they can buy products from us however they want to.”

The system uses password-protected, personalized Web sites that allow customers to place orders from multiple locations, view lists of frequently purchased items, access order-status information and compile a multiple-item order for later processing.

In addition, Turner said the company expects to augment the service with the addition of customized pricing based on volume. Individual customers will be able to determine what their price discount is for large orders without calling the account manager.

Customers who choose to will be able to contact PC Connection directly from the sites by using a hot link button that prompts an e-mail message directly to their account managers.

She said the company does not expect to increase staffing at its call centers.

“We really see this a complementary avenue, and we plan to continue to grow our call centers as business warrants,” she said.

PC Connection's roll-out follows the implementation of a similar service earlier this year from rival reseller CDW Inc. called CDW@work.
