Overture to Expand With German-Language Services

Pay-for-placement search service provider Overture Services Inc. is expected today to announce an expansion of its services that includes German-language search results.

The Pasadena, CA-based company plans to formally inaugurate its 4-month-old Munich office to serve advertisers in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland. Overture already has a division in the United Kingdom.

The company also plans to announce that it will expand its 2-month-old partnership with German Internet service provider T-Online. The ISP, one of the largest in Europe, will incorporate Overture search results into its online portal.

In April, Overture plans to have AOL Time Warner unit AOL Europe on board as its second German-language distributor. Overture signed an agreement with AOL Europe in January and hopes to expand on that deal to include syndication of German-language and English search results across AOL Europe's sites in Germany, France and the UK. Overture already has a deal with AOL Time Warner in the United States.

James Olson, Overture's vice president of corporate communications, said the company also is considering launching similar divisions in France and Japan. However, he said there is no timetable for rolling out those divisions.
