Outpost.com Revises Shipping Rates Downward

Outpost.com has tweaked its shipping prices for the third time in the past two months.

For orders of $500 or less, the computers and electronics retail site's second-day shipping will now start at $3.95, instead of the recently announced $8.95. Next-day shipping will now begin at $5.95 instead of the previously announced $12.95. The company also is considering adding a ground option.

“These new prices are a substantial reduction from our current shipping fees and offer more reasonable rates to many of our loyal customers,” said Darryl Peck, the new president/CEO of Outpost, Kent, CT.

The announcement follows the retailer's recent discontinuation of free overnight delivery for all orders, which it had been offering since spring 1999.

On April 12, the retailer reported fourth-quarter losses totaling $10.1 million compared with a loss of $9.8 million in the year-ago period. At the same time, Outpost replaced president/CEO Katherine Vick with Peck.
