Outpost Slashes Work Force, Appoints New President

Outpost.com has cut 110 employees from its payroll and replaced president/CEO Katherine Vick.

The computers and electronics retailer now has 129 employees. It appointed Darryl Peck president/CEO.

“As far as our customers are concerned, it is business as usual,” Peck said in a statement Friday.

The firm made the announcement one day after disclosing that its fourth-quarter losses totaled $10.1 million, or 30 cents per share, compared with a loss of $9.8 million, or 41 cents per share, in the year-ago period.

Outpost, owned by Cyberian Outpost, Kent, CT, last month discontinued the free overnight delivery offer that it had been running since spring 1999. The site is now offering free second-day shipping instead.

Free delivery is available only for orders larger than $500. The site had been offering free next-day shipping for orders exceeding $100 since Feb. 1.

Prior to that date, Outpost.com had provided free next-day delivery for all orders.

Effective March 28, orders of $500 or less can be delivered by second-day express mail for $8.95, while overnight packages cost $12.95.
