Online DVD Retailer Sees Traffic Spike After Demise of Reel.com

DVDEmpire.com, an online retailer of DVD movies, music and CD-ROMs, yesterday said it has installed new servers to meet a large spike in customer traffic since the demise of competitor Reel.com.

The Pittsburgh-based company is reporting Web traffic increases of 100 percent and revenue increases of over 40 percent over the last 10 days, with the spike beginning just before Hollywood Entertainment’s Reel.com unit ceased operations.

“It just goes to show you that spending a bunch of money attracting people to your site doesn’t make good business sense if they don’t stick around and become repeat customers,” said Steve Negri, director of marketing for DVDEmpire.
