Wired has a great story today about an American in Haiti who saved himself after being crushed by the earthquake with the help of his iPhone.
He used a first aid app to build himself a tourniquet and heeding warnings of passing out while in shock, he set the alarm to go off every 20 minutes to stay awake. He managed to survive for 65 hours until he was rescued by a French rescue team.
I wish I knew who made the app, I can’t think of a better example of designing apps as a utility, a trend that I hear so much about from mobile companies today.
