Office Depot Remodels Web Site

Office Depot Inc., one of the three leading office-supplies players offline and online, unveiled a new Web site yesterday that claims to offer users more speed and better ease of navigation.

The company made the new touches to the site at www.officedepot.com after reviewing feedback from small-business customers.

Chief among the changes are stronger search and navigation ability, a new business services section and improved imaging that includes 3-D views of nearly 1,000 best-selling office furniture products.

“It’s really designed to help our small-business customers work smarter and better,” said Eileen H. Dunn, vice president of investor and public relations at Office Depot, Delray Beach, FL.

The relaunch mirrors similar moves by traditional retailers to upgrade their online operations in time for holiday sales. Best Buy Co., Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and Target Corp. were among brand-name retailers that recently spiffed up their sites.

Ironically enough, the new officedepot.com site bears the same red-and-blue color combination as Staples.com, the online arm of its archrival, Staples Inc. OfficeMax.com, on the other hand, lacks the dense layout and color tones common to its rivals.
