Office Depot Exceeds Recycled Content Goals

Office Depot exceeded its 2004 targets for environmental performance by 50 percent, the company reported yesterday.

Office Depot, Delray Beach, FL, also increased the usage of post-consumer recycled content in its Canadian advertising insert program to 75 percent last year. The Canadian advertising insert program has increased its use of post-consumer recycled content by 400 percent since 2003, the company said.

According to Office Depot, its environmental efforts saved 23,600 typical trees and 19 billion BTUs of energy, prevented 2,500 tons of greenhouse gas emissions, eliminated 925 tons of solid waste and prevented more than 4 million gallons of wastewater from being produced. Office Depot claims to be the first office products company to set annual environmental performance targets.
