Nurun builds US presence with Odopod acquisition

Quebecor Media-owned Canadian digital agency Nurun has acquired Odopod, a San Francisco-based digital shop.

The deal adds Odopod clients such as Google, Electronic Arts and Sony Electronics to Nurun’s roster, which includes Cartier, MSN, AT&T and Disney.

The acquisition closed in mid-August, said Jim Yang, chief strategy officer at Nurun. He declined to disclose terms of the deal.

Yang said the acquisition boosts Nurun’s profile in the U.S.

“We’ve had our eye on the U.S. market for some time. We’ve been in the market with the 2004 acquisition of Ant Farm, but we think that Odopod gives us a presence on the West Coast,” he said.

Yang said Nurun has a three-step plan to integrate Odopod. For the first year, Odopod will retain its brand and operate independently, but it will eventually be folded into Nurun, he said. All Odopod employees will remain with the agency.

Yang said Nurun has plans to “potentially” expand into the Brazilian market within the next year via acquisition. The agency is also looking at the U.K., he said.

“We’re thrilled to be joining Nurun. They bring us a global footprint, best-in-class technology capabilities and a wealth of experience with large global companies,” said Tim Barber, cofounder and executive creative director of Odopod, in a statement.
