Northwest Shutting Reservation Center

Northwest Airlines will close its reservations center in Long Beach, CA, in December and eliminate 250 positions, leaving the airline with six call centers, the company said yesterday.

The cut positions involve 250 telephone reservation agents, who will be eligible for transfer to other Northwest call centers, the airline said. In addition, Northwest will close urban ticket offices in New York, Bloomington, MN, and San Jose, CA.

The airline's remaining call centers are in Baltimore, Chisholm, MN, Detroit, Minneapolis, Seattle and Tampa, FL.

Northwest also is shutting a 1,450-employee aircraft maintenance center in Atlanta. Between the call center and aircraft maintenance center, 100 management positions will be eliminated, the airline said.
