BTB Cataloger's Test Drop Sees Unanticipated Results
A New Jersey lawmaker has embarked on a campaign to create a telemarketing do-not-call list for residents of the Garden State.
Assemblywoman Linda Greenstein, D-Monroe, introduced a bill in the state legislature — which met for the first time this year on Jan. 5 — last month that would create a DNC list in New Jersey with penalties of up to $2,000 for each violation of the DNC list.
Under the proposal, consumers would sign up for the list at no charge by calling a toll-free number. If the bill becomes law, New Jersey would join 11 states that have instituted DNC lists and four others — Connecticut, Idaho, Missouri and New York — that have passed legislation that will create DNC lists. Lawmakers in Wisconsin and New Hampshire are considering proposed DNC list laws as well. Maine has passed a law requiring telemarketers to subscribe to the Direct Marketing Association's Telephone Preference Service, a privately run DNC list.
