New Lobbying Group Advocates Postal Reform

A former congressman and member of last year's President's Commission on the U.S. Postal Service will lead a lobbying group for First-Class and small-volume mailers that was announced yesterday.

Bob Walker, chairman of Wexler & Walker Public Policy Associates, was one of nine members of the commission appointed by President Bush to study postal reform. The commission issued its recommendations in July. Walker also served 20 years in the House of Representatives as a Republican from Pennsylvania.

Organizing members of the group, called Postal Reform in the Public Interest, include American Business Media, the Greeting Card Association, the Newspaper Association of America and The McGraw-Hill Companies.

“Many postal stakeholders have a strong lobbying presence in Washington, but that historically has not been the case with smaller mailers, and especially those who represent the public interest in this debate, the citizens that receive their greeting cards, newspapers and magazines,” Walker said. “We will make sure their voices are heard in this year's debate.”

He will be joined by Joel Malina, Wexler & Walker managing director, in representing Postal Reform in the Public Interest on Capitol Hill.
