New Gateway Software Targets Small and Midsize Businesses

Gateway yesterday introduced a software package aimed at helping small and midsize businesses build Web sites and implement e-commerce operations.

Beginning in July, Gateway, San Diego, also will offer Web-business workshops in Gateway Country stores in 10 major markets, including Boston, Miami and San Francisco.

“Enhancing a Web site with e-commerce capabilities can bring enormous market opportunity to small and medium business,” said Chris Gibson, vice president of marketing at Gateway Business. “But many companies shy away from it because of cost or technical complexity.”

Dubbed the Gateway WebStore, the software includes templates to design customized Web sites, inventory control and database support.

The pricing model for the software is $9.95 per month for building Web sites and $19.95 per month for e-commerce implementation. WebStore can be ordered via telephone; at Gateway's Web site, www.gateway.com; or at Gateway Country locations.

The workshops that Gateway will offer beginning in July, meanwhile, will teach small businesses how to build and manage a Web site and how to start and operate e-commerce-enabled sites. The three-day workshops are called eBoot Camp.

The workshops are priced at $249 to learn how to build and manage a Web site and $499 to learn how to implement e-commerce capabilities.
