New Custom Publishing Study is Good News for Journalism Grads

Recent journalism graduates can look toward custom publishing for good news in entering the ever-competitive publishing world.

A new study from the Custom Publishing Council , an organization representing custom publishers in North America, and the Publications Management newsletter, claimed growth in individual areas of custom publishing and overall spending has led custom publishers to their fifth consecutive year of growth.

The research was conducted by mail, targeting a random sample of companies across all industries. It generated 200 respondents.

Results of the study show an increase in the demand for specialists with editorial and design experience, the number of professionals on staff and an eliminated pay gap between small and large companies.

According to the study, an all-time high was reached this year in the amount of staff time spent on custom publishing. Another peak was also reached in the level of productivity, which is measured by the number of unique pages produced per full-time employee.
