NetCreations Strikes List Deal With CMPnet

Miami, April 6 – E-mail list development management firm NetCreations Inc., announced at the Direct Marketing Association’s net.marketing show here that it has inked a deal with publisher CMP Media’s online arm, CMPnet to manage CMPnet’s approximately 500,000-name e-mail list.

Rosalind Resnick, president of NetCreations, New York, estimated that the deal will net her firm between 100,000, and 200,000 names. “This is not a marketable list yet,” she said. CMPnet’s list is made up of people who signed up from informational updates at CMP net site www.techweb.com, but not necessarily for commercial e-mail. “If you try to market to this list as it stands, you will get flamed [receive e-mail backlash] like you’ve never imagined,” she said. CMPnet will contact each of the people on its e-mail house file of “technology builders, sellers and users” and ask them to visit CMPnet {www.cmpnet.com) and “opt in” to receive commercial e-mail on topics of interest.

Resnick declined to project when CMPnet would mail the list or when the resulting list would go on the market. She said she believed CMPnet planned to begin getting the list ready for market as soon as possible. She added that the deal puts her firm’s database at over 1 million unique addresses.

NetCreations will store CMPnet e-mail addresses in its Web database, provide e-mail delivery and merge/purge services on its site at www.postmasterdirect.com. The CMPnet lists will initially rent for 20 cents a name including list rental, email distribution and merge/purge.
