NBA Names Insurance Exec as its CMO

Insurance industry marketing veteran Pamela El has been named as CMO by the National Basketball Association. She will assume her new duties on August 18 and will direct marketing and advertising efforts for the NBA, WNBA, and the NBA Development League.

Following a 15-year stint in the agency business, El transitioned into brand marketing with State Farm Insurance in 2002, where, ultimately as VP marketing, she built experience in brand management, social media marketing, sponsorships, and celebrity and sports talent relationships. She moved to Nationwide in 2013 to take over as SVP of financial brand marketing.

She will report to deputy commissioner Mark Tatum, who said in a press release that El would be “a huge addition as we work to build our brand on a global scale.”
