National Geographic acquires Green Guide

National Geographic has acquired Web site and bimonthly newsletter Green Guide to offer more content and information about the environment.

Tim Kelly, president/CEO of National Geographic Ventures, the taxable subsidiary of the National Geographic Society, made the announcement last week. The site went public yesterday.

National Geographic will use www.thegreenguide.com and its newsletter to speak with a unified voice about urgent environmental issues, especially climate change and global warming.

Under www.nationalgeographic.com, Green Guide will publish new and expanded online content. The service is free to the public and will retain the look and feel of the original publication.

Green Guide will now include National Geographic News, expanded with a daily online environmental report.

In partnership with National Geographic’s short-form video production unit, Green Guide will produce several joint ventures, the first of which will be Green Homes, a how-to series of videos, accessible via TheGreenGuide.com and available for download as a podcast.

Green Guide will also have access to National Geographic’s editorial assets, including research, video and still images.
