Missouri fined a repeat violator of its do-not-call list law $30,000 for further violations, the state attorney general's office said yesterday.
A court ordered Rolox Windows, Kansas City, to pay the fine on charges that it made calls to Missouri residents to pitch window installation and other home improvements, the attorney general's office said. The company previously paid $5,000 for past violations, according to the attorney general.
The state also fined a Kaiser, MO-based company, Mid-America Quality Water, $5,000 for DNC violations, the attorney general's office said.
Missouri has collected $680,000 from 76 telemarketers on charges of DNC list violations since the law took effect in July 2001. Missouri is considered among the most active states in enforcing its DNC law.
Oklahoma on Jan. 14 asked a court to issue injunctions to bar National Teleguard Systems of Mesa, AZ, and Sailors Benefits Association of Phoenix from telemarketing there.
According to the Oklahoma attorney general's office, the companies failed to register as telemarketers in the state as required and tried to sell consumers a service for about $300 that they claimed would protect them from telemarketing calls when the state attorney general sold their personal information. The state keeps all personal information on its DNC list confidential, the Oklahoma attorney general's office said.
