Microsoft Launches UltimateTV

Microsoft Corp. last week officially launched Microsoft UltimateTV, a system that combines DIRECTV programming, interactive television and Internet access.

UltimateTV lets viewers pause, replay, fast-forward, rewind or view live television in slow motion. It also offers viewers digital video recording capabilities, Internet access, interactive television access, e-mail and chat services and the ability to respond to advertisements.

The system lets viewers watch one live television program while recording another or record two live programs simultaneously. Microsoft charges consumers $9.95 per month for 35 hours of digital programming. Consumers can also receive unlimited Internet access through the system for an additional $5 per month.

DIRECTV programming, which features more than 225 channels, is sold separately, and pricing varies.
