Microsoft Buys Into MyPlant.com

Phoenix-based Honeywell and Redmond, WA-based Microsoft Corp. said yesterday the companies will work together to enhance the functionality and growth of Honeywell’s MyPlant.com, an e-business that provides knowledge-based solutions to the manufacturing industries. The goal is to make MyPlant.com an independent e-hub for collaboration between solution providers and end customers. As part of the alliance, Microsoft made an equity investment in MyPlant.com.

The Web site serves as a resource for plant managers, engineers and operational staff seeking advanced solutions to help them solve plant problems and improve operational performance.

The hub, which was launched in July 1999, includes an online community of industry consultants, software providers, equipment providers, academic professionals and engineering service firms.

MyPlant.com will use MSN’s network of Internet services, and Microsoft.com communities will be linked to resources found on MyPlant.com.

Microsoft business-to-business associates, such as VerticalNet Inc., will provide content and tools that will enable MyPlant.com customers to trade, buy and sell services directly from the Web site.
