Meet the 2019 Honorees! Sadira Furlow, Vice President of Marketing, Frito-Lay North America

Sadira is the Vice President of Marketing at Frito-Lay North America, Pepsico

What is the greatest challenge you have overcome?

Being brave to bring all of me to places and spaces where it would have been easier to blend in.

What are the main advantages and disadvantages of being a woman in the workplace?

Advantages: my walk in the world as Sadira, a multifaceted woman of color, means I have collected experiences that as a collective creates a unique perspective, which in turn provides a unique set of solutions to bring to the problem solving table.

Disadvantages: I have to be more courageous, patient and resilient to tackle bias and ignorance encountered along the journey. There’s a lot educating others along the way, as well as this constant consciousness of proactive anticipation and scenario planning.  For example, when entering new environments or high visibility mtgs with executives, how might my curly hair be perceived and therefore a judgement of my credibility?

What do you think women in the workplace have today that they didn’t have before?

Greater awareness of the gender driven disparities, advocacy, programs and community. Also, more room to be multidimensional and succeed via different paths, personalities and styles.

What do you think the next generation of women marketers will have that the present one does not?

Gosh, this next generation are such bad asses. They have passion, drive, confidence, bravery, talent and vision anchored in a strong set of values that creates the right boundaries to reach their greatest potential,  all while making a positive impact on the world and ensuring there’s always joy.
