What is the greatest challenge you have overcome?
Overcoming self-doubt and really believing in myself. Putting myself out front did not come naturally for me, so finding my voice and leading were necessary skills honed over years of practice and experience.
What are the main advantages and disadvantages of being a woman in the workplace?
It’s hard to generalize on this topic, although I find that women tend to lead with empathy and a human connection which is an advantage in today’s people-driven talent market. I think the biggest disadvantage is simply that there are not as many female leaders as there are male. We need more women to be in leadership positions across industries and to mentor and groom the next generation in leading by example.
What do you think women in the workplace have today that they didn’t have before?
I think there is more acknowledgement and acceptance that people, all people, have full lives outside of work. For example, men are sharing more responsibility for child care. While this may not extend to 50/50 partnership for the full burden, including caring for aging relatives, it has certainly come a long way over the last 20 years.
What do you think the next generation of women marketers will have that the present one does not? I think the current generation is well positioned, and the essentials, such as expertise in data analysis, content strategy and user experience, will only become more important over time.
