Meerkat launches ephemeral streaming video product

Meerkat has popped up seemingly overnight to become the next app poised to deliver on ephemeral messaging.

The livestreaming app, which requires Twitter authentication to view and participate, gives users the opportunity to live stream from their mobile devices to Twitter users.

Once you activate a stream, it automatically tweets the title and link to your show on your connected Twitter account.

The app only allows for live viewing; once the livestream ends, it is not viewable to followers, though you are ostensibly able to save it (it was down when I tried).

TechCrunch called it “the livestreaming app Twitter should have built.” Social media trendsetters like Gary Vaynerchuk and Product Hunt founder Ryan Hoover have hosted multiple streams to try out the product.
