U.S. Rep. John McHugh (R-NY), chairman of the House Subcommittee on the Postal Service, is soliciting written comments on proposed revisions to his Postal Reform Bill — H.R. 22 — that will overhaul the laws governing the U.S. Postal Service.
The period for comments is open through April 7, and the comments will be reviewed before the subcommittee moves forward on the bill. Key revisions of the proposed bill, released in September, were for the postal service to split its products and services into competitive and noncompetitive groups and create a separate corporation for the competitive ones and the authority to set most of the rates for them.
The revisions were the result of feedback from more than 40 witnesses who testified in hearings on the original bill. In addition, testimony from 60 witnesses has been heard in more than a dozen hearings on the challenges facing the postal service and the need for reform.
