McDonald’s kicks off its Snapchat account with some help from LeBron James

McDonald’s formally announced its presence on Snapchat today, by sending a snap of basketball superstar LeBron James, as a teaser for its new commercial.

The snap is a behind-the-scenes shot of James from the commercial’s shoot, tied into the release of McDonald’s new sandwich on March 10.

The fast-food chain follows the footsteps of Taco Bell in using the ephemeral messaging app to reach a very youthful audience (the kind that won’t have hangups about eating fast food clearly.)

Earlier last week, McDonalds quietly signed up for the app and used another social media service, Twitter, to encourage people to follow it on Snapchat.

Speaking to Mashable, McDonald’s director of social media Rick Wion said “We are excited to use Snapchat as a way to share the fun side of our brand with this highly engaged audience of millennials,”
