MarketLive appoints former Motorola executive as CEO

E-commerce application platform and services provider MarketLive Inc. has named former Motorola executive Terry Austin its new president/CEO.

With over 20 years of experience in the technology industry, Mr. Austin joins Market Live, Petaluma, CA, at a time when the market for e-commerce platforms is increasingly marked by competition from new entries, each promising their own unique combination of services and technologies.

“Most technology categories go through something similar,” Mr. Austin said. In the early stages, custom-designed platforms are the norm. However, as the industry matures, “what typically happens, is that more and more of the core functionality gets standardized, allowing customers to put in the flexibility they need,” he said.

Currently, a lot of retailers are looking to replace their legacy platforms because there is “a lot of technology that is getting a bit long in the tooth and wasn’t the most flexible,” Mr. Austin said. As a result, “there’s a need for a stronger packaged solution for the market, and while there are some choice out there, MarketLive seems to be extremely well positioned to take advantage of that,” he said.

Mr. Austin has hands-on experience helping build Good Technology Inc. with assets, including corporate e-mail, CRM and other back-end systems to mobile workers.

He led the company through five major product releases and the acquisition and growth of over 10,000 enterprise customers. In January, the company was acquired by Motorola.

Before Good Technology, Mr. Austin was president of European operations for Manugistics. Before that, he was a lead partner of the North American Supply Chain Line of Business for Accenture.
