Mark Acton was sworn in on Aug. 18 as a member of the Postal Rate Commission for a term of office extending until Oct. 14, 2010.
Mr. Acton was nominated by President Bush on November 7 and confirmed by the United States Senate on Aug. 3, 2006.
Prior to this appointment, he served as special assistant to the chairman of the Postal Rate Commission, helping in managing all aspects of agency operations.
The Postal Rate Commission is the Executive Branch federal agency charged with independent review of domestic postal rates, fees and classifications.
Mr. Acton joins a panel including chairman George Omas of Mississippi, vice-chairman Dawn Tisdale of Texas, Ruth Goldway of California and Tony Hammond of Missouri.
In addition to his years of public administration experience at the Postal Rate Commission, Mr. Acton has an extensive professional history of active involvement in the public policy arena, including nine years of experience managing legislative and regulatory concerns as staff director for the Republican National Committee Counsel’s Office.
Mr. Acton’s professional background includes direct mail marketing experience managing Republican Party finance programs.
He lives in Washington and is a native of Louisville, KY, where he attended the University of Louisville. He is a 2006 degree candidate for an MBA from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland.
