Maine AG Sues All-Pro, Charity

The attorney general of Maine announced yesterday the filing of a civil suit against All-Pro Telemarketing and its client, International Law Enforcement Games, involving a telephone fundraising campaign.

In solicitation calls made in late 2003 and early 2004, All-Pro telemarketers claimed that donations would assist a “major children's wish fulfillment organization,” the attorney general's office said. The callers did not identify the organization, but misled prospects into believing that donations would go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine.

The solicitations violated Maine's Unfair Trade Practices Act, the attorney general's office said. Other allegations cited by the attorney general include violations of the state's Charitable Solicitations Act for All-Pro's failure to disclose its name, address and identity as a paid fundraiser, and the Maine Solicitation by Law Enforcement Officers Act.

Attorney general Steven Rowe seeks an injunction against All-Pro, Fairfield, NJ, and International Law Enforcement Games, Jacksonville, FL, as well as fines, restitution for consumers and court costs.
