Mail-Well Enters New Print Market With Five Purchases

Envelope industry consolidator Mail-Well Inc., Englewood, CO, has entered the commercial print market with the signing of definitive agreements to buy five printers with combined 1997 sales of more than $140 million. They are: Accu-Color and Color-Art, St. Louis; Clarke Printing, San Antonio; French Bray, Baltimore; and United Lithograph, Boston.

Mail-Well will consolidate the companies into a new general commercial printing division with Color-Art president Gary Lorenz serving as president and CEO.

Mail-Well has completed acquisition of index and filing products maker Century Index, Anaheim, CA, and the International Paper Co. Label Division, Bowling Green, KY. Pending the completion of other acquisitions, the company now operates more than 80 printing plants in North America and is expected to generate accretive revenues of $1.5 billion for 1998.
