Mailing Industry Mourns the Death of Arnold Fishman

Arnold Fishman, president of Marketing Logistics Inc., Highland Park, IL, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at the age of 73, after a battle with a brain tumor.

Fishman was well-known for his comprehensive book series called “The Guide to Mail-Order Sales,” used frequently by the direct marketing industry. He recently completed the 18th edition of the book, which was a three-volume, 1,250-page industry study.

Fishman was also on the Board of Advisors for the National Mail Order Association, Minneapolis, at the time of his death.

During his career, Fishman held a variety of positions including: president of the consulting group at the Maxwell Sroge Co.; director of market planning at Citibank, the Franklin Mint and Paramount Pictures; founder of the Corporate Management Sciences Department at Miles Laboratories; chairman of the Statistics Committee of the Direct Marketing Association; and director of Research for Hoke Communications.

He was also a member of the Institute of Management Consultants, American Marketing Association, Operations Research Society of America, American Statistical Association, and board member of the Journal of Direct Marketing.

Fishman is survived by his wife, Grace, a son, George, and daughter Hillary.
