Mail Boxes Etc. Dumps O&M for Doner

Mail Boxes Etc., a franchiser of retail postal and business services, has named Doner to handle national advertising, though a formal business agreement is pending the conclusion of discussions.

The account will be handled out of Doner's Newport Beach, CA, office. Ogilvy & Mather, Los Angeles, was the incumbent on the account. The amount of the contract was not disclosed.

Mail Boxes Etc. said the decision was made after a four-month review of agencies. The Rojek Cutcher Group Inc., Cleveland, was the review consultant.

Founded in 1980, Mail Boxes Etc. is a UPS subsidiary with 4,500 licensed franchisee locations worldwide. It ships packages, has more than 800,000 mailboxes rented to U.S. consumers and offers fax and other business services.

Doner will offer a range of advertising services, including direct marketing.

Doner, which claims to be the largest independent ad agency in North America, reported billings of $1.5 billion last year. Clients include Arby's, Owens Corning, DuPont, American Greetings, Mazda, Coca-Cola Co. and Chiquita.
