Madonna Concert Webcast Attracts 9 Million Viewers

A half-hour Madonna concert Webcast Tuesday on Microsoft's Internet arm, MSN, attracted roughly 9 million page views.

The concert, which was held at Brixton Academy in London, was shown at 3 p.m. EST via Webcast at www.msn.co.uk/madonna. The live showing was limited to an audience of roughly 3,000 celebrities and various contest winners. However, the Webcast pulled in record numbers, surpassing the 3 million who viewed last year's Webcast of Paul McCartney at The Cavern in Liverpool, England.

MSN did not pay the pop music performer for concert rights, but she received free publicity from the event in addition to marketing via the MSN Web portal.
