Entertainment destination Lycos Inc. and video search engine blinkx announced a new Lycos broadband search experience.
Lycos visitors can find broader search results from blinkx’s index of 5 million hours of searchable video content, including favorite TV moments, news clips, short documentaries, music videos and video blogs.
“In the coming weeks, Lycos will be creating an entirely new paradigm for the consumption of video online, moving away from the flat text world of Web 1.0 toward rich media, broadband interactive video, audio and games content,” said Brian Kalinowski, chief operating officer for Lycos, Waltham, MA. “As we continue to add more high-quality video content partners, our goal is to provide the best video search experience for users who come to Lycos.”
This news follows Lycos launching a new broadband platform last month, providing them broadband video programming and entertainment that is just like television.
Blinkx uses speech recognition technology that the company says delivers more accurate and reliable results than metadata-based keyword searches. The two companies will share revenue generated from search results.
“Lycos wants to give end users the best video search experience available anywhere on the Web to quickly and easily find natural-form video,” Mr. Kalinowski said. “Other video services do not provide the relevant results blinkx is able to offer with their patented speech and pattern recognition technologies.”
