L.L. Bean Catalog Gives Customers Wrong Number

L.L. Bean Kids 1999 catalog, which dropped the week of July 19 and arrived in-home last week, featured the wrong toll-free number. A telecommunications glitch resulted in the calls being routed to a private residence in Virginia; the wrong number — 800/LLBKIDS — was actually an inactive 800 number at the time. L.L. Bean, Freeport, ME, almost immediately assumed the number, according to a spokewoman. Its correct toll-free number — 877/LLBKIDS — was also listed within the pages of the targeted catalog. L.L. Bean mails 50 different catalogs a year, including L.L. Bean Home and L.L. Traveler. “We apologized to the affected party for the inconvenience,” said the spokeswoman.
