Liberty Digital, Sony to Form Interactive TV Network

Liberty Digital said yesterday that it plans to buy a 50 percent stake in Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Game Show Network for $275 million in cash and stock, with views on further expanding its reach into interactive television.

The two companies plan to create a 24-hour TV network that uses properties of the Internet and digital set-top boxes to allow viewers to participate in games from their homes.

“Games represent one of the great potential applications of the categories in which we intended to focus our interactive television initiative,” Lee Masters, president/CEO of Liberty Digital, said in a statement.
