Levi’s to Discontinue Online Sales

Levi Strauss & Co., San Francisco, announced Friday it will stop selling its merchandise online through company-branded Web sites.

Levi’s clothing and accessories will be sold only on JCPenney and Macy’s Web sites after Christmas. The news comes just one year after its e-commerce launch. Sales have been strong for www.levi.com and www.dockers.com, but channel conflict with retail partners has been an issue for the company, not unlike other e-commerce players.

A company spokesman cited the cost of running its e-commerce business as “unaffordable.”
