Letter: Why Haven’t Environmentalists Seized on E-Mail’s Benefits?

Tad Clarke’s editorial regarding the recycling charges threatening UK DMers (Jan. 20) brought to mind something that has puzzled me: Why is it that the environmentalist community has never seized upon the environment-friendliness of e-mail marketing? Deleting an e-mail involves no muss or fuss and no nasty paper to dispose of.

Yet environmentalists have never seized upon this. In fact, it seems that the greens are among the most vociferous critics of spam. Nonetheless, e-mail has enormous tree-saving potential.
