LETTER: One Vote for Massages

To paraphrase from Ken Magill’s recent editorial “Massages? Not a Good Sign” (www.dmnews.com/articles/2000-11-20/11684.html) , sometimes even editorial writers are so trivial it’s an embarrassment.

I’d accept Magill’s suggestions if the company were losing money or about to go out of business. The company told you why it was sending the release — no staff turnover. That’s rare and newsworthy today.

If the company found a cost-effective way to eliminate turnover, you should be writing a story about it and praising it in your editorials. I’ll save you all the statistics about the cost of hiring and training new employees, and how long it takes for them to be productive on the new job.
